House Museum director Evan Curtis Charles Hall plans for the final memorial to have seven chimneys. Photo by Stella Merims.
Following the devastating 2025 Los Angeles wildfires, artist Evan Hall set out to rescue an extraordinary part of Southern California’s architectural heritage: surviving chimneys from destroyed homes, including those designed by modernist architects Richard Neutra, Ray Kappe, and Eric Lloyd Wright.
Through Project Chimney, Hall and House Museum are transforming these architectural remnants into a public memorial honoring the homes, histories, and communities lost to the fires.
In an illustrated presentation followed by a conversation with Glass House curator Cole Akers, Hall will explore the intersection of art, modern architecture, and preservation—and how fragments of the past can anticipate the future.
